Groundbreaking Set for New Middle School in Viera
January 23, 2023 – With a groundbreaking set for February 1 and an opening date of August 2024, Viera will have another great educational option with a new middle school to be built just north of Viera High School.
“Good quality schools are one of the most important elements in a master-planned community, and Viera is blessed to have some of the best in the state,” Todd Pokrywa, president of The Viera Co., said.
The middle school will mean that young students will be able to stay close to home for elementary, middle and high school education.
The middle school campus will house a main building, a secondary classroom building, a gymnasium building and a retention pond that will interconnect with the Viera High retention pond, St. Johns River Water Management District permitting records show.
The construction project is estimated to cost $52 million to $55 million, funded primarily through educational impact fees, a Dec. 13 school board agenda memo said.
Viera’s population is now more than 30,000 people. The master-planned community has grown to more than 13,000 homes, with new subdivisions planned and under construction. Viera is ranked in the Top Ten Best-Selling Master Planned Communities in the U.S. according to both major ranking organizations, John Burns Real Estate Consultants and RCLCO.
