April 11, 2024 – The Brevard Zoo (26 Best Zoos in the U.S. – U.S. News and World Report) is a great place to visit and the many exhibits and animals are wonderfully entertaining, but the Zoo also has a mission to help the environment, and a big part of that mission is working to save endangered animals.
Recently, the Zoo welcomed two Florida grasshopper sparrow chicks into the world, a meaningful event for this critically endangered species. Three years ago, there were only about 100 members of this species in their natural range. In the last two years, the Zoo has hatched 116 chicks and as these chicks mature and are medically cleared it is possible to release them into Central Florida to boost the population.
